In further proof that every movie or television show eventually returns, the “MADtv” revival is officially upon us. The CW aired the sketch-comedy show’s first episode in seven years last night with several longtime cast members in tow, namely Nicole Sullivan, Will Sasso and Bobby Lee. Among the bits was a “Game of Thrones” parody highlighting
In it, a couple sits down for a Westeros session, with a caveat: The woman hasn’t seen the HBO drama since season one and doesn’t know what’s going on. Luckily, the “previously on…” video is there to catch her up — except it’s little more than a cavalcade of character and location names that further confuse both the viewers at home and, eventually, the characters themselves. “I have it written down somewhere,” Brienne of Tarth answers when asked by Sansa which Red Woman is where. Also, Khal Drogo quotes Beyonce and Arya and Haqen H’ghar descend into a “Who’s on First”–style conversation over her lack of a name.
Seven more episodes of “MADtv” are set to air this season. “Game of Thrones,” meanwhile, is set to return for its seventh season next summer.
