The late-night show returns to the airwaves on July 24th.
HBO’s late night show “Last Week Tonight” may be off the air for a bit, but that doesn’t mean host John Oliver won’t keep us updated on various important news events, or at the very least, funny YouTube comments, the “most cogent written argument for never learning how to read.” Though Oliver starts with some positive comments, such as one praising the host’s eyebrows, he then moves into nastier territory, such as a comment that says that Oliver “looks like a mix of a Pokemon and a child molester,” or one that calls him a “live-action Beaker.” He ends by featuring a comment that bets Oliver “a zillion dollars” that he won’t feature the comment in a video. Check out the full exclusive blow.
John Oliver came to prominence as a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” from 2006 to 2013, and actually hosted the show for eight weeks while Stewart was off directing his film “Rosewater.” After he left “The Daily Show,” he was offered a late night position at HBO, and he began hosting “Last Week Tonight” in April of 2014. Since then, his show has garnered widespread critical acclaim, and some of their segments have had a powerful effect on the culture at large, such as their report on net neutrality and the Miss America pageant.
“Last Week Tonight” returns July 24th at 11pm Eastern only on HBO.
